Philadelphia Songbook Volume 1

The Philadelphia Jazz Project seeks to encourage the creation of a local songbook in the tradition of The Great American Songbook, which celebrates the most important and influential American popular songs of the 20th century. The Philadelphia Songbook will include traditional Jazz standards and popular songs penned and/or performed by local artists.

The Philadelphia Jazz Project presents Philadelphia Songbook Volume 1. Which will include compositions by John Coltrane, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, James Mtume, Hall & Oates, Norman Connors, Blue Magic and Jill Scott. Pianist, Alfie Pollitt and vocalist, Denise King will serve as musical directors for this presentation and they are joined by a team of local performers including Barbara Walker, Ella Gahnt, Bethlehem, Pablo Batista, George Bussey, Anthony DeCarlo, Tony Jones, Webb Thomas, Pete Chavez, Aaron Goode, Marion Salaam, Kevin Valentine, Tony Miceli, Carol Harris and Charles Washington.

Philadelphia Jazz Project is a sponsored project of the Painted Bride Art Center, with funding provided by The Wyncote Foundation.
